GWUPIE Coordinator Kelsey KingContact KelseyOriginally from outside Philadelphia, I am a sophomore in the Elliot School of International Affairs. I am the Director of George Washington University’s Program for International Education. In other words I coordinate programs that we as members of the IAS can do to benefit High School Students in the surrounding areas of the city. If you are at all interested with working with kids, working on new and exciting projects/ ideas that involve Model UN and International Affairs then I look forward from hearing from you. Please feel free to email me. |
GWUPIEGeorge Washington University’s Program for International EducationGWUPIE is another opportunity for IAS Members to put their knowledge and experience of International Affairs and Model United Nations to use. In November and in April the IAS hosts a Middle School Conference and a High School Conference for Model United Nations. The students that run this conference are well trained in Model UN and have strong knowledge of what is going on in the world, so it made good sense to bring back GWUPIE a few years ago to teach students who do not have these opportunities about Model UN and about world affairs overall. The IAS will be working with Global Classrooms, the education arm of the United Nations Association, to go into high school classrooms and do what we do best. For example, this fall we will be teaching about different regions in the world through contemporary films that have had an impact on the way the world looks at these regions. One of our main goals is to emphasize to the students the importance of events that are often overlooked because they did not occur in the United States. Then, in the spring, we will be helping Global Classrooms prepare students for the Washington, D.C. conference in May at the US State Department. If you like working with students, watching movies, International Affairs, and Model UN, get involved with GWUPIE! To learn more about the program and how you can participate, e-mail Kelsey King. |
