MUN Coordinator John Sakakini

Contact John

Hey guys, I'm a senior hailing from both Austin, TX and Trumbull, CT of Palestinian origin double majoring in Middle Eastern Studies and International Affairs. Since my freshmen year in High School, I've been an active Model UN delegate at conferences all around the US and Canada. Within GWIAS, I was on the executive board last year as Co-Publicity Director during the Spring semester, as well an an active Model UNer attending almost every conference we attend. Outside of IAS, I have had internships throughout DC and New York, from working at the United Nations in the Summer of 2007, to the Palestinian Mission to the US in Spring of 2007. In addition, I recently studied abroad at the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

I am excited to be your MUN coordinator and will be looking for the most fun conferences around the world for us to attend. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

About Model UN

Model United Nations simulations are designed to teach participants about all the dynamics of international affairs, diplomacy and international organizations that can not be learned by simply reading a book or through traditional academic study.

To this day over 200,000 high school and college/university students participate in a Model UN each year. MUN conferences include all the aspects of debate, learning and interaction with a diverse group of people you'd expect, yet it is so much more. The experience is often said to help participants learn more about themselves and the rest of their world. This program is not only a learning experience; MUN conferences offer a great opportunity to travel, meet new people and to grow closer to your peers.

Simply put, joining our Model UN team is the most fun you'll have in all your years at GW. The Model UN delegation is an exciting experience where you'll go to great cities, you'll debate, meet great people and have incredible memories to take back home.

In addition to our Model UN team, GWIAS hosts two conferences each year: WAMUNC, for high school students, and GWCIA for middle school students.
