The Arctic Council

27 years ago, the Ottawa Declaration was signed by the eight Arctic states, creating the Arctic Council. With the goal of promoting cooperation between both states and indigenous communities in the Arctic, the council has established dozens of projects and initiatives in hopes of improving the region.

 

But with climate change accelerating, economic interests in the Arctic diverging, and relationships between the Arctic states derailing, the Arctic Council finds itself frozen in crisis.

 

Will the council strike a deal and thaw political tensions, or will their cooperation end and the organization slowly melt away?
