The Americas are a critical part of the world, the New World home to unique societies and unique challenges. Floods of migrants travel northward, seeking opportunity and fleeing struggle, receiving mixed messages and little humanitarian assistance. Many travel through the precarious Darién Gap, a lawless, undeveloped jungle. Another issue is the plight of the indigenous, who seek to maintain their presence on and ties to their land, amidst cultural degradation and territorial encroachment. The OAS seeks to tackle these issues with all states of the Americas getting a say.
