DISEC
The First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, DISEC, leads global efforts to address threats to international peace and security. It is responsible for disarmament, arms control, and emerging security challenges in a landscape shaped by technological advancement, shifting power dynamics, and regional tensions. Risks range from conventional weapons proliferation to new domains of warfare, making threats increasingly complex and interconnected. Delegates must balance national defense priorities with collective security obligations, navigating strategic rivalries, alliance politics, and evolving conflict. As negotiations progress and blocs form, Member States will be tested in their ability to create realistic, cooperative frameworks that reduce instability and prevent escalation before competition and mistrust lead to crisis.
